Letrozole is a potent Aromatase Inhibitor developed to fight breast cancer. For athletes and bodybuilders, anabolic steroids are a drug used to combat estrogenic side effects of water retention, acne and gynecomastin. It also raises testosterone levels due to low estrogen in the body. Side effects of letrozole include a lowered sex drive and continued use can lead to reduced lipid function and a compromised immune system.

Femara® (generic name Letrozoldur) is a new drug developed for the treatment of advanced stage breast cancer. Femara is the second in a new class of third generation selective aromatase inhibitors. The enzyme acts by blocking the aromatase, then blocking the production of estrogen. Since many forms of breast cancer cells are stimulated by estrogen, it is hoped that the progression of such a disease can be stopped by reducing the amount of estrogen in the body. This drug is the mainstay behind Nolvadex, but this drug does not produce estrogen, it blocks the action. The effects of Femara can be quite dramatic to say the least. A tablets daily dose (2.5 mg) may produce an estrogen suppression greater than 80% in treated patients.The powerful effect of this medicine and hormone levels is only used by postmenopausal women who have advanced after treatment with Nolvadex (clinically). Side effects such as hot flashes and hair thinning may be present and are much more severe in pre-menopausal patients.
