Description

Lasix is a popular derivative of anthranilic acid, formulated as furosemide for therapeutic use. Furosemide is used as a cyclic diuretic (water pill) that controls the absorption of more salt from the normal level in the body, and excess salt in the urine. It has been successfully designed and manufactured by Aventis specialists and is available in strips containing 12 tablets each weighing 40 mg.

Why it is used: With its unique furosemide component, Lasix treats fluid retention. Water and salt are removed from the center, bringing normal levels back to the body. After the last absorp- tion in the kidneys, the excess water, sodium and chlorine salts are expelled from the body through the urine. Furosemide inhibits the absorption of sodium and chlorine salts and kidney tubules from the filtration of water, resulting in increased dieresis. It mainly treats edema or fluid retention that occurs during heart failure, cirrhosis, chronic renal failure or nephritic syndromes. It also treats defects caused by abnormal levels of potassium, calcium and magnesium.
